If we could give 100 stars to Scott Bowen on this review, we would. Although my husbands divorce was finalized years ago, he was served with a notice to appear in California as his prior wife had filed in court stating she had not received what was owed her. Also, she disputed her portion of his pension which is dispersed by a union and must go through a legal process to make certain that her percentage based on the years of marriage is correct. This was all completed to the letter of the law but she felt she was entitled to more. We are both retired, on a fixed income and now live out of state in Idaho. We knew that we had to retain legal counsel and also bear the expense of traveling to California for the hearing. Trying to manage this long distance was frustrating and potentially more than we could ever afford. After consulting numerous attorneys to represent us and receiving quotes for retainers that were exorbitant at best, we were ready to throw in the towel. As unfair as the whole situation was we did not feel we had the money or energy to fight another battle (as this is not the first time) with her as she could continually file whenever she felt like it knowing that we live out of state and that we would have to retain an attorney and pay for travel. Also, she is aware that we most likely could not afford another court fight and might give up and just give her whatever she wanted. And then we found out about Scott Bowen. We know very little about the legalities of hearings, court appearances and the necessary paperwork that comes with it. It's easy to make a misstep without someone in your corner that has extensive knowledge of the practice of law. His retainer was far less than half of anyone else, he answers his phone and emails timely and has a professional yet caring persona that is not common in his field. It's not over yet but we have the best representation that we could have ever hoped for at a cost that was manageable to us.
