There are two choices of satellite radio in the North American market: Sirius and XM. However, both services are offered by the same company. Although Sirius and XM used to be two separate entities, they merged in 2008 when Sirius bought XM Radio. Because Sirius and XM used different technologies at the time, both services remained available.
